Nagendra Murlidhar, the founder of Mysore Chess Center, has been deeply connected to the game of chess for many years. His passion goes beyond competition — he strongly believes in chess as a powerful tool to shape young minds, build discipline, and develop strong thinking skills.
Through years of involvement in competitive chess, administration, and coaching, he witnessed firsthand how chess can transform children — improving focus, confidence, and decision-making, both on and off the board.
The Beginning of Mysore Chess Center
Mysore Chess Center was established over 12 years ago with a clear vision: to make quality chess training accessible and meaningful. What began with just 5 children grew steadily through word of mouth, parental trust, and visible results.
From the very beginning, the focus was on teaching chess systematically and thoughtfully, treating it not merely as a game but as a subject that develops life skills. The aim was to create an environment where every student could learn at their own pace, guided by structured training and personal attention.
Growth, Recognition & Impact
Over the years, Mysore Chess Center has trained 1000+ students, produced state and national-level champions, and hosted several prestigious tournaments, including national championships.
Under Nagendra Murlidhar’s leadership, the academy gained wide recognition, supported by:
- Elite Grandmasters and International Masters as mentors
- Active involvement with the Karnataka State Chess Association and All India Chess Federation
- Roles at major events such as the Chennai Chess Olympiad and National Championships
